A SILVER-INLAID BRASS CANDLESTICK BASE
FARS, SOUTHERN IRAN, 14TH CENTURY
Of circular form with waisted body, on flaring base rising to a slightly concave shoulder, the body finely engraved and inlaid with rounded medallions, each with intertwined birds over scrollwork ground, each of these large medallions bordered with small roundels engraved with geometric rosettes, the body ground worked with tight lattice of "T"-shaped motifs, a floral scroll below the rim, the shoulder with similar decoration with roundels of birds and rosettes over a ground of "T"-shaped motifs, the top's central panel a later replacement, the decoration rubbed, minor dents, remains of original black paste in places
