The Scottish photographer James Graham, was in the Holy Land from December 1853 to 1856 and took some of the earliest photographs of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. The Pre-Raphaelites Thomas Seddon and Wililam Holman Hunt visited him at his lodgings in a tower on the Mount of Olives, and used his photographs as reference material for their paintings.
