Description Exacte des Isles de l'Archipel, et de quelques autres adjacentes. Amsterdam: George Gallet, 1703. 2° (345 x 220mm). Half-title, title in red and black, additional engraved title, 31 (of 34) engraved plates showing 40 maps and views, 42 engraved illustrations. (Lacking list of plates on 3A4, small marginal tear to plate of 'Platte Gront der Stadt Rhous' between pp88 and 89, clean tear to p.463, soiling to half-title and occasional browning.) Contemporary mottled calf (head of spine heavily chipped, extremities rubbed and chipped, back joint cracked). Provenance: L. La Corogna, ownership inscription.
FIRST FRENCH EDITION with fine engravings. The first edition, in Dutch, was published in Amsterdam in 1688. A few of the plates are based on those in Boschini's Arcipelago and others are after Coronelli. Blackmer 453.
