Lawrence spent the summers of 1907 and 1908 bicycling around the medieval castles of France, and then took himself off to the Lebanon and to Syria in 1909 to record the castles there. He wrote up his researches as the dissertation for his BA. This is the first of the Golden Cockerel productions of TEL's 'literary remains'. The present lot contains many of the photographs TEL took on these tours, as well as his sketches and, in vol. II, his letters home. Chanticleer 112; O'Brien (2000) A188-189. (2)
