Frankfurt: Caspar Merian, 1656-1661. 8 (of 13) parts in 2 vols, 2° (307 x 197mm). 4 engraved additional titles, 209 (of 210) engraved plates mounted on guards and comprising views, plans and maps, some folding, many double-page and some with two plates on one sheet. (Lacking 5 parts and one plate, occasional browning and staining, a few small clean tears and wormholes.) Fine contemporary mottled calf, spines gilt, sprinkled edges, ties (a few minor scuff marks).

FIRST EDITION IN GERMAN of the most comprehensive illustrated guide to France's cities, towns, and buildings in the seventeenth century. The Topographiae is rarely found complete, the present copy is lacking the five parts printed in 1657: Paris und Ile de France, Lyonnais, Bourbonnais und Beaujolais, Auvergne und Limousin, Gouvernement Orleans, Normandie.
