The god with flowing beard and moustache, hair arranged in three rows of archaic-style tight curls, wearing a fillet, pupils recessed for inlays (now missing)

Lot Essay

Sir Francis Dashwood was a descendent of Francis Dashwood, 15th Baron le Despencer (1708-1781), former Chancellor of the Exchequer, notorious rake and founder of the Hellfire Club, who embarked on a Grand Tour in 1726.
