Carlo Campo and Franco Graffi trained under Carlo Mollino at the faculty of Architecture at the Polytechnic of Turin, graduating in 1950. Subsequently apprenticed to Mollino, many of their own designs offered dramatic qualities that sited them firmly within American designer George Nelson's concept of a 'Turinese Baroque' style of design. The present lot articulates this sensibility by contrasting techniques of pressed-steel and flock-coating sourced from the Italian automobile industry, with the aspirational luxuries of tufted velvet upholstery and polished brass.
