Lot Essay

The present watch is a fine example of a reference 6239 with engraved tachymetre scale and the characteristic two-colour scheme of the dial, inverting the colours of the main dial and the three subsidiary dials. With its original and very good overall condition, correct calibre for the time, tachymetre scale graduated to 300 and sharp milling, the watch has a sporty, masculine appearance, which should delight its wearer.

The bracelet of the watch is original to the ensemble. Stamped 1.68, it fits perfectly with the serial number for the time period of 1967/68. The fact that the first central link of the bracelet appears slightly raised is another clear indication that both case and bracelet left the factory together as it is the correct bracelet for this specific time.

Different versions of reference 6239 are described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 296 - 303, and in 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by John Goldberger, pp. 238 and 242 - 245.
