Lot Essay

The Holy Spirit was a French order of chivalry of which the King of France was the Sovereign and Grand Master. The identification of the sitter is supported by his very young age: as Grand Master, the King was a member of the order from birth, whereas his children could only be members from the age of twelve, and others from the age of sixteen.
