Details
TWO COMPOSITE SWEPT-HILT RAPIERS & A DECORATIVE SWEPT-HILT RAPIER
17TH CENTURY AND LATER
The first each with slender double-edged fullered blade, one with faint signature (perhaps '... Toledo'), guard of bars including upper and lower side-rings, and inner-guard of slender rings, one hilt possibly 17th century, the other of more recent manufacture, one with wire-bound grip, the other with leather-covered grip, and globular pommel incised with decoration, one almost certainly 17th century; the second with double-edged blade with inscription on each side, guard of flattened rounded bars decorated in low relief with scrolling foliage against a punched ground, the outer side of the quillon-block with a Green Man mask, wire-bound grip with Turk's heads, and associated globular pommel decorated with scrollwork inhabited by birds
Respectively 37½in. (95.2cm.), 41¼in. (104.7cm.) and 42in. (106.7cm.) blades (3)
