A LARGE ARCHAISTIC BRONZE TRIPOD VESSEL, DING
17TH/18TH CENTURY
The heavily cast vessel is supported on three cyllindrical legs, each emanating from a monster-mask. The exterior is decorated with four large taotie masks reserved on a leiwen ground. Each side is applied with a short loop handle and the interior is inscribed with a long inscription in archaic characters.

Lot Essay

The insciption is written in archaic script, stating that the vessel was commissioned for serving the ancestral spirits, and it shall be treasured by future generations of sons and grandsons.
