A LARGE DATED BRONZE CEREMONIAL BELL, ZHONG
DATED YONGZHENG 3RD YEAR, CORRESPONDING TO 1726, AND OF THE PERIOD.
The large bell is of typical tapering form surmounted by a double-dragon handle. Delicately cast around the centre with two confronting dragons chasing a flaming pearl amidst cloud and flame scrolls, above a smaller panel of two phoenix amongst flowers flanked by an eleven line inscription, all between further bands of lappets.

Lot Essay

The long inscription states that the bell was made in mid-autumn during the third year of Yongzheng, corresponding to 1726, for the Shou Sheng Lu Temple, commissioned by devotees Bao Yupei, Zhang Chaoliang, Pan Zhiying, Li Mingrui, Qian Wenjun and Qin Zaijing.
