Ferdinand Hodler fertigte das Plakat zur XIX. Ausstellung der Wiener Secession (1904) an, die ihm zum endgültigen internationalen Durchbruch verhalf. Mit dem liegenden Jünglingsakt greift der Künstler auf den ursprünglich ebenfalls als Plakat geplanten Traum von 1897/1903 zurück.

Ferdinand Hodler completed the poster for the XIX Vienna Secession exhibition (1904), which helped him with his ultimate international breakthrough. With the laying male nude, the artist draws upon Traum, 1897/1903, which was originally planned as a poster as well.
