A FORMAL COURT ROBE (CHIFU) OF BROWN-GROUND SILK BROCADE FOR AN IMPERIAL DUKE
CIRCA 1800
The robe is woven with silk and gilt thread with eight dragons chasing the flaming pearls between cloud scrolls, the lower border is embroidered with a broad band of cresting waves and cranes above pavilions. The lower sleeves are of blue silk.
