Edo period (18th-19th century)
Decorated in polychrome pigments and gilt on embosssed leather with scrolling flowers, with a strap of the same leather with a lock and a key, the interior lacquered in black, fitted wood box inscribed Kowatari Kinkarakawa: Tebunko (Precious gold-gilt leather imported in the old times: Letter Box)
