Meiji period (late 19th century)
Decorated in gold, silver and red takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, iroe-togidashi-e, brown ishime and mother-of-pearl inlays on a black ground with sprinkled hirame, with a crayfish, an abalone and a clam on bamboo leaves, the interior of the cover with the setting sun in waves, the removable interior tray with sailing boats amongst waves on a mura-nashiji ground, slate inkstone in fundame, copper rectangular waterdropper
