RED LACQUERED NUINOBE NIMAIDO GUSOKU [ARMOUR]
Edo period (19th century)
The eboshi [court cap] style kabuto [helmet], lacquered yodarekake [bib], the red-lacquered nuinobe-do [cuirass] of shittsukezane [plate simulating laced scales], a silk brocade pouch at the waist, with kusazuri [skirt] of seven tassets each of five tiers, ko-sode [small shoulder guards] attached to the watagami [shoulder straps], chu-sode [medium shoulder guards] of seven tiers of gold lacquered shittsukezane, hyotan gote [sleeves], the tekko [hand covers] with articulated fingertips, Etchu haidate [thigh guard], the plates gold-lacquered, red-lacquered seven-splint iron Shino suneate [lower leg guards], the whole being recently re-laced with green braid, and mounted on a blue silk gold brocade with phoenixes, hanabishi [rhomboid stylized floral emblems], and scrolling
