A MEISSEN SILVER-MOUNTED CYLINDRICAL TANKARD
PROBABLY CIRCA 1740, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, RED ENAMEL K.H.C. KÖNIGLICHE HOF CONDITOREI INVENTORY MARK, PRESSNUMMER 83
The scroll handle with a foliate scroll-moulded terminal, painted with a continuous scene of a parade of Oriental figures, led by a boy playing a pipe followed by a man riding on the back of an exotic beast laden with goods and other figures including a blackamoor with carrying a bow and arrows, a child holding his sash aloft, on a shaded green and brown terrace with a fruiting palm tree and birds in flight above, the spirally-moulded cover with a foliate thumbpiece and inset with an equestrian coin inscribed D.G.FRID.AUG.REX POL.DUX SAX ARCHIMARESCHALL.& ELECT on one side and IN PROVINCIIS IUR.SAXON.PROVISOR.ET VICARIUS.1741. on the reverse (five small chips and extended firing crack to footrim)
