Lady Frederica Osborn, née Davers, was the daughter of Sir Charles Davers. She married Sir John Osborn, 5th Baronet (1772-1848) in 1809 and had five children by him.
The miniature is accompanied by an extract from a letter written by General Sir George Osborn to his brother John, ambassador at Dresden. It is dated 24 January 1810, and describes the wedding of Sir John Osborn and Frederica Davers, as well as the bride herself, 'She has plenty of wit, a perfect disposition and an elegant manner, and although she is not yet 19 years, she has the common sense of a much older person.'
For a further portrait of the sitter together with one of her husband, see lot 152.
