A SET OF FOUR GEORGE II SILVER CANDLESTICKS
MARK OF JOHN CAFE, LONDON, 1743
Each on shaped stepped square base, the baluster stems with fluted knop and terminating in spool-shaped sockets, with detachable nozzles, the bases engraved with a coat-of-arms, the nozzles engraved with a crest, each marked under base, three further marked on nozzle and one on socket, the bases further engraved with scratchweights '16=5'; '17=8=; '16=15' and '18=1'

The arms are those Hyett quartering Webb impaling Snell, for Benjamin Hyett (1709-1762) of Painswick House, co. Gloucester, and his wife Frances, the daughter of Sir Thomas Snell Kt., whom he married in 1744. He created the celebrated rococo gardens at Painswick House which were restored in the late 20th century. (4)
