Oval with gadrooned border with shells and acanthus at intervals, on four scroll, shell and vine feet, the two reeded handles with acanthus joins, the field engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on reverse

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Clive impaling those of Windsor, for The Hon. Robert Henry Clive (1789-1854). Clive was the younger son of Robert Clive, 1st Baron Clive and Henrietta, daughter of Henry Herbert, 1st Earl of Powis. He married in 1819 Harriet, daughter of Other Windsor, 5th Earl of Plymouth. Robert Clive was MP for Ludlow from 1818 to 1832.
