MARK OF PAUL STORR, LONDON, THE DISH 1814, THE COVER 1818
Shaped oval, the meat dish with well and tree, the border gadrooned with anthemion at intervals, the base fitted with a ring for placement in a warming stand, now missing; the domed cover with conforming decoration, the finial on a calyx, with reeded handle and lion's-mask joins, the cover engraved on each side with a coat-of-arms, marked under base, on cover, finial, and nuts
The meat dish 24¼ in. (61.6 cm.) long; 312 oz. (9,718 gr.)

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Berkeley Portman impaling those of Hulse, for Edward Berkeley Portman (1771-1823), of Bryanston and Orchard Portman; he married (secondly) 22 March 1816, Mary, daughter of Sir Edward Hulse, baronet.
