Lot Essay

The present work was painted en plein air by Repin on his estate Zdravnevo in the Vitebsk province where he spent the summer months from 1892-1900. It is a preparatory sketch for his 1896 Young ladies out for a walk among the cows, which is now held in the collection of the Kiev National Museum of Russian Art.

We would like to thank Liudmila Andrushchenko, Senior Researcher at the Ilya E. Repin Estate-Museum 'Penates' for her assistance in cataloguing this work.
