A GREEK MARBLE APHRODITE
HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 2ND-1ST CENTURY B.C.
The goddess standing on a low integral plinth with her weight on her left leg, her right bent at the knee and pulled back, her left hip thrust out to the side, draped in a high-belted diaphanous chiton that follows the sensuous form of her body, revealing her navel, and falling to the ground in thick vertical folds, the toes of her left foot protruding from below the hem, her himation rolled below her waist, crossing over her legs, and pulled up at the back, its broad heavy folds contrasting with the thin vertical pleats of the chiton below, mortises for the separately-made, now-missing right arm and head, roughly finished at the back
