This mask is an exceptionally rare example of a female mask, which is the counterpart of the celebrated male masks with long, pointed noses from this region called, barak (see lot 3 for the male version from the Jolika Collection), or often referred to as 'mosquito masks'. Of fine, tall proportions and with a highly developed surface, the elongated, abbreviated features and close-set eyes recall to Western eyes the work of Modigliani.

Cette oeuvre est un exceptionnel et rarissime masque féminin, pendant des célèbres masques masculins aux nez longs et pointus provenant de la même région, appelés barak (voir le lot 3 pour la version masculine de la collection Jolika) ou le plus souvent dénommés "masques moustiques".
Les grandes et délicates proportions, la surface largement développée, les traits allongés et stylisés ainsi que les petits yeux fermés, font écho, dans les esprits occidentaux, à l'oeuvre de Modigliani.
