Lot Essay

These andirons are inspired by the celebrated model executed by Nicolo Roccatagliata in the Museo Nazionale, Florence, illustrated in L. Planschig, Venezianische Bildhauer Der Renaissance, Vienna, 1921, Abb.666. A pair of the same model was sold Christie's, London, 11 May 2005, lot 45 (£11,400).
