Lot Essay

Compare the current bowl with a small Song dynasty jar similarly decorated, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - Porcelain of the Song Dynasty (I), Hong Kong, 1996, p. 208, no. 188. See also a jar and cover dated late 11th-early 12th century with an abstract design similar to that on the exterior of the present bowl, in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, illustrated in Oriental Ceramics, The World's Great Collections, vol. 10, Tokyo, 1980, no. 84.
