CHATEAU D'YQUEM
Lying in Weybridge, Surrey (EHD)
Château d'Yquem--Vintage 1962
Sauternes, 1er grand cru classé
One slightly corroded capsule, one with slight signs of seepage. Two slightly bin-soiled labels, one creased, one damaged, one badly bin-soiled. Levels: one top, one mid/upper, one mid. Two of amber colour, one darker
Tasting note: Three notes within 9 months. In September 2002: rich old gold; 'calve's foot jelly'; rich, crème brülée. A month later, in magnum: warm amber; honey and apricot on nose and palate, rich of course. Most recently, at Yquem, recorked: medium-amber, 'paler than expected', open lime rim; very fragrant orange blossom, melon, caramel; medium-sweet delicious flavour - like thick-cut marmalade, some softness yet dry finish. Very much as programmed. Last tasted June 2003 **** Crisp and lovely now. Will keep. M.B.
