SOLDERA

There is Brunello di Montalcino, and then there is Soldera Case Basse Brunello di Montalcino. On offer here are several of the (confusingly named) Soldera Brunellos. Intistieti was, for some time a Vino da Tavola. In 1987, the Institieti was from Case Basse--a jump in quality, but to the confusion of wine drinkers, and due only to the fact that Soldera liked the Institieti name. The practice was repeated in 1988 and 1991, and the latter was followed by a Vino da Tavola comprised of both vineyards. In 1990, Case Basse made a Brunello, with the Institieti named reserved for the Riserva. On offer here, 1995 is the first vintage in which Soldera produced a riserva from Case Basse.
