This painting is identified by inscription as "Raga Kedara son of Megha" on the verso, however the depiction of a woman preparing food or huqqa for her partner is unusual. Comparably identified paintings usually depict an ascetic playing the lute and accompanied by other musicians and disciples. Another inscription gives the number "59," possibly the folio number in the series. As with lots 5 and 7, this Ragamala series has been reattributed to the court of Chamba, circa 1690; see lot 5 for further discussion.
