LADIES VISITING HOLY MEN
FAIZABAD, INDIA, CIRCA 1760-1770
Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, ladies accompany a noble lady to a group of six sages, she sits before them, two ascetics with their knees tied by yogic bands, all seated or standing around a fire, a pond with bird couples in the centre, trees in the background, laid down on card with gold-speckled cream margins, the reverse with seal impression of Wazir al-Mamalik Asaf al-Dawla Bahadur Asaf Jah and date of AH 1190/1776 AD and 17(th year of reign), very minor flaking, otherwise in good condition
