Lot Essay

The present lot was removed from Knighsbridge Barracks, on the south side of Hyde Park, London, following its demolition in the 1960s. The building was designed by the brothers T.H. and M.D. Wyatt and was completed in 1880. Historical photographs of the building show several terracotta sphere finials such as the present lot atop gate posts at the main entrance.
