The 1784 Descriptive Catalogue of Coade's Artificial Stone Manufactory, Section V, Capitals, p 7 shows a number of designs for capitals and pilasters for interior and exterior use. The London 1774 Building Act which reduced the use of exterior wood to a minimum allowed Coade to supply a great variety of architectural elements which were simultaneously decorative and fireproof.
