Lot Essay

Anticoli Corrado is a town located near the border with Abruzzo, an area of rocky mountains 40 km from Rome. The town's name derives from Ante Colles and Count Corrado di Antiochia who was the feudal lord during the thirteenth century. Anticola women, already famous for their beauty, were used as models in the 19th century by Italian painters, and latterly foreign artists, who fell in love with the surroundings and in many cases settled here. The town is now known as The land of artists and models accordingly.
