Montblanc Series Patron of Art pays tribute to past and present eminent sponsors of the arts.
The present pen celebrates Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859), a Prussian geographer, naturalist and explorer, who extensively travelled in Latin America, describing it for the first time in a modern scientific way. The result of his research was Kosmos, a literary lifework in which he expounded on the knowledge gains through his travels. According to Humboldt, everything should be measured with the most modern and sophisticated instruments available, and the collected data were the basis of all scientific understanding. He supported other scientists and was an influential patron of culture in his days. Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1810 and Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1822, Humboldt used his influence on the Prussian Royal Court and was one of the most famous men in Europe acclaimed by eminent academies and scientists.
