FIRST EDITION of this richly illustrated world chronicle, with an interesting provenance: Antonius Texaurus was the Duke of Savoy's private doctor during the 1540s. His inscription, in a rather shaky hand, adds that the supplement includes material on Charles V and Paterculus's Roman History. The superb woodcuts are by Jakob Kallenberg, amongst others, who had provided nine woodcuts for Matthias Apiarus in the previous year for his edition of Boccaccio. The cypher found on the woodcut depicting the Nativity at e (f. 25) has been attributed to both Hans Galatan and Claus Hagenbach. Adams R-985; Brunet IV, 1474.
