FIRST EDITION OF THE ORCHESTRAL SCORE FOR RAKHMANINOV'S 'MOST ENDURINGLY POPULAR WORK', and that which established his fame (Grove). The front wrapper bears the printed dedication to Nikolai Dahl, the psychologist who had helped Rakhmaninov overcome the long creative block that followed Symphony no. 1. THe score in this set are for a 51-piece orchestra, including 15 violins. The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, vol. 15, p.553.
