Lot Essay

An accomplished sculptor and medalist, Raymond Delamarre is best known for the 1934 bas-relief he created for the luxurious first-class dining room of the ocean liner Normandie.
Delamarre studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and won the Prix de Rome in 1919. He exhibited at the major French exhibitions in the 1920s and 30s, and in 1925 was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Exposition Internationale.
