stained black and natural, the stems with concentrically turned discs terminating in a bulbous knop, the kings and queens with dished discs, the kings, queens and bishops with contrasting ivory and stained wood finials, the knights with horses heads (one black knight replaced), the rooks of castellated form with conical tops, probably Dutch, early 19th century -- king 3½in. (9cm), pawn 2in. (5cm)
