FIRST EDITION of Kotschy's fine work on the oaks of Europe and the East. Kotschy, an Austrian botanist and explorer, performed extensive research throughout the Middle East and northeastern Africa. Between 1836 and 1862, he collected over 300,000 botanical specimens on exhibitions to sites including Syria, Egypt, Sudan, Cyprus, Asia Minor, Persia, Palestine and Lebanon. The plant genus Kotschya from the family Fabaceae is named in his honor. RARE: According to American Book Prices Current, only three copies of this work have sold in the last 35 years.
