2 volumes, 4o (258 x 192 mm). Half-titles, errata, hand-colored engraved title in volume one, 132 hand-colored engraved plates, some leaves and plates printed on blue paper. (A few leaves with light marginal spotting.) Contemporary French red straight grain half morocco, glazed paper boards, edges untrimmed (light rubbing and wear). Provenance: M. de Roucy (ticket on pastedown).

FIRST EDITION, providing descriptions, histories, and medicinal uses for a variety of plants both indigenous to France and those native to other regions. Roques studied medicine at Montpellier and worked as a physician in military hospitals before moving to Paris and becoming one of the celebrated botanists of his time. RARE: According to American Book Prices Current, no copy of the first edition of this work has sold at auction on the last 30 years.
