CHURCHILL, Winston S. Autograph letter signed ("W."), to his brother Jack Churchill, London, 14 September 1914. 1 page, 8vo, Admiralty stationery.
"TRUST IN ME"
CHURCHILL GIVES HIS BROTHER INSIDE INFORMATION ABOUT AN IMPENDING MILITARY ACTION IN WHICH JACK WILL TAKE PART, and calms his mind about money should Jack not survive. "I have explained to Goonie. I am hopeful that this business will not be serious. It is intended only as a demonstration on the enemy's flank: & I expected that the armed motor cars will do the work: you being merely a support & to enable the infantry to move. But now it seems that German cavalry in gt force has come all over this area. You will be kept in close relation to the perimeter of the fortress wh is extensive & well fortified as I know from personal inspection." He "beseeches" Jack not to worry "about money" and promises to "make myself absolutely responsible in case things go wrong, that all your affairs are made good and sure. Trust in me."
