Three full-page etched illustrations by Callot, 26 half-page illustrations by Callot, Antonio Tempesta, and Raffaelo Schiaminossi. (Some scattered light spotting.) 19th-century quarter calf and marbled boards. Provenance: Marquis de Melzi (ink stamp on verso of title); acquired from William H. Schab, 1965.

FIRST EDITION. An important series in the canon of Callot's work: this record of the funeral of the Queen of Spain on 3 February 1612 (1611 according the old Florentine calendar) marks his first contact with the Medici court (the work was commissioned by Cosimo II, Grand Duke of Tuscany); it is the first recorded work of Callot's after his arrival in Florence and probably his first published etchings. The majority of the illustrations are by Callot, but also examples from the two masters under whom he studied under in Florence: Tempesta and Schiaminossi.
