First work: etched title and 25 etched plates (9 full-page); second work: etched frontispiece, etched vignette on title, 61 full-page etchings. Contemporary paper boards, marbled paper spines, uncut. Provenance: acquired from Ars Libri, 1983.
FIRST EDITION of both works. Written about 1625, the Trattato sopra gli error degli architetti expresses Gallaccini's views on restraint in art and architecture, which brought him to the attention of proponents of neo-Palladianism such as Visentini and Consul Joseph Smith. Visentini had already engraved Canaletto's views of Venice for Smith and carried out architectural commissions for the Consul, and Smith was involved in the publication of these two architectural treatises.
