2o (408 x 288 mm). Engraved title and 169 engraved plates by Alexander Mair (some dampstaining to last quarter.) Contemporary German vellum gilt, edges gilt (slight worming to lover cover). Provenance: acquired from Harry A. Levinson, 1971.
FIRST EDITION. The plates depict a variety of bits, many of the bits are extremely elaborately designed, as much for decoration as for use, the caption, printed on the verso of the presiding plate, indicating their purpose and the kind of horse for which they are intended. Seutter was stablemaster to Markus Fugger whose arms appear on the engraved title page. Berlin Kat 1400; Lipperheide Tc15.
