TALMBERG, Rudolf Franz von (circa 1645-1702)

[Stirrup designs]

the set of 22 engravings including dedication page, 1674, fine, tonal impressions of these exceedingly rare prints, probably published in Vienna, with wide margins, some minor scattered foxing, in generally good condition.
Plates: 12¼ x 4 in. (315 x 100 mm.) (and similar)
Sheets: 14¼ x 9½ in. (360 x 245 mm.)

Provenance:
Donaueschingen Library; their sale, Sotheby, London, 31 June 1982.
Acquired from Tamarkin, 1983.

No trace of the engraver or the work has been found in bibliographies of Ornament or Horsemanship.
As can be deduced from the dedication to his Imperial Majesty - presumably the Austrian Emperor Leopold I - von Talmberg was a cavalry officer and a courtier at the Imperial court in Vienna.
