[ZANETTI, Antonio Maria, the younger (1706-1778)]. Delle Antiche Statue Greche e Romane che nell'Antisala della Libreria di San Marco, e in altri luoghi pubblici di Venezia si trovano. Venice: 1740-43.
2 volumes, 2o (500 x 373 mm). Titles printed in red and black and within a fine engraved border, engraved frontispiece, portrait and 100 engraved plates, each page of text within a fine engraved border and containing numismatic and other illustrations. Contemporary Italian gold-tooled mottled calf, edges gilt. Provenance: H. Tronchin (bookplate); Bessinge (booklabel); acquired from Bernard Quaritch, 1981.
Antonio Maria the younger collaborated on this work with his elder cousin, Antonio Maria Zanetti (1679-1767), the Venetian engraver, connoisseur, and a collector of engraved gems. He provided most of the drawings for this sumptuously illustrated account of the classical sculpture conserved in Venetian public collections, particularly in the Marcian Library of which the younger Zanetti was the librarian. Assistance with the text was likely provided by Antonio Francesco Gori (1691-1757), who had worked before with the elder Zanetti. The younger Zanetti was also a close friend of the painter and collector of engravings, Domenico Bernardo Zillotti (or Zilotti). A VERY FINE, FRESH COPY. Morazzoni 262; Berlin Kat. 4208; Blackmer 1868; Cicognara 3565. (2)
