Lot Essay

Close to a group of heads, signed in a similar way, in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Rouen (P. Rosenberg and L.-A. Prat, Jacques-Louis David 1748-1825: Catalogue raisonné des dessins, Milan, 2002, nos. 406-418). Rosenberg and Prat believe that these drawings were executed around 1819-1823, during the period that David was in Brussels.
