A FINE SMALL-SWORD WITH CHISELLED STEEL HILT
PROBABLY SPANISH OR PORTUGUESE, MID-18TH CENTURY
With long tapering double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section cut on each side with twin pierced fullers at the forte stamped with letters (very tip of blade lacking), one side of the blade struck with a maker's mark, and oblong ricasso, iron guard comprising symmetrical double shell-guard, long arms, short rear-quillon, knuckle-guard, grip and globular pommel each finely chiselled in relief and pierced with partially gilt ornament including shells, foliage and ribbons framing beadwork cartouches each containing a martial trophy
