A SMALL-SWORD WITH SILVER HILT
PROBABLY FRENCH, MID-18TH CENTURY
With slender blade of hollow triangular section changing to flattened hexagonal section towards the point and with etched gilt ornament at the forte, hilt comprising oval guard cast and chased with dots and a chequered diamond pattern with traces of gilt finish remaining on the granular ground, the quillon-block, lobed quillon, knuckle-guard and small globular pommel decorated en suite, and with silver wire- and ribbon-bound grip with Turk's heads, in vellum-covered scabbard with silver mounts chased en suite with the hilt
